The federal Clean Electricity Regulations (CER) are a key part of the suite of policies, incentives and regulations to support decarbonizing our electricity grids as we move towards a net-zero economy. It provides regulatory and policy certainty for investors, companies and communities. For more than a year, the federal government has been consulting with stakeholders to develop the draft CER, announced August 10, 2023. As part of its continued consultation process with stakeholders, the federal government opened a 75-day consultation period for the proposed regulation.
The Pembina Institute is pleased to have had the opportunity to provide insights and recommendations into how the CER can deliver a credible, affordable and reliable net-zero grid in Canada, with significant emissions reductions by 2035, and congratulates Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for the extensive consultations held over the last year and a half, and for the resulting draft Clean Electricity Regulations (CER).
