Trucks and vans represent a major opportunity for emissions reductions. While these trucks make up a small share of vehicles on the road, they account for a disproportionate share of transportation emissions and fuel costs. Electrifying this sector delivers significant climate, air quality and economic benefits, but it requires charging infrastructure that works for how fleets operate.
Innovative Charging is the first study globally to assess fleet operators' willingness to adopt shared and “as-a-service" charging models for electric trucks. Drawing on the interviews with fleet operators in British Columbia and a comprehensive scan of models operating worldwide, this report:
- Establishes a standardized typology of six shared charging and “as-a-service" models
- Documents real-world case studies
- Reveals strong fleet acceptance of alternative charging models
- Identifies the charging models fleets are most likely to adopt, where chargers should be deployed and what fleets are willing to pay
- Provides policy recommendations identified by fleets to facilitate adoption of shared and “as-a-service" charging infrastructure
