EDMONTON — SIMON DYER, Deputy Executive Director at the Pembina Institute, made the following statement in response to the release of the report of the Public Inquiry into Anti-Alberta Energy Campaigns:

“The Alberta-based Pembina Institute welcomes the conclusion of this costly and unnecessary exercise and commissioner Steve Allan’s finding of no wrongdoing by the Pembina Institute, or indeed by any organization. The United Conservative Party and Premier Jason Kenney’s rationale for the Inquiry has been fully discredited.

“Alberta’s Public Inquiries Act has been used to attempt to harm the Pembina Institute for advancing action on climate change and improving the environmental performance of Alberta’s oil and gas industry.

“Alberta is dangerously behind in the global conversation and mainstream action on climate change. Hundreds of jurisdictions around the world have committed to net-zero emissions by 2050, accounting for more than 60% of global emissions. We encourage the Premier and the United Conservative Party to commit to the goal of net-zero emissions and put forward a credible plan to support investments in decarbonization and diversification of Alberta’s economy.”
