TORONTO — The Pembina Institute is proud to announce that its executive director Chris Severson-Baker has been named to Canada’s Clean50 for his outstanding contributions to advancing clean energy and climate solutions in Canada – notably, the regulation of the oil and gas industry and the electrification of the economy.
Selected from a highly competitive pool of national nominees, Severson-Baker was recognized by Delta Management Group for his work to advance public understanding and policy development of clean energy and climate solutions across Canada through sustained, high-quality thought leadership.
“Few people can say their fingerprints are on Canada's most significant climate policies of the last decade, but Chris comes close,” Pembina Institute deputy executive director Simon Dyer said. “As a long-time leader of the Pembina Institute – one of Canada’s most trusted, evidence-based voices in a polarized policy landscape – in the last few years alone, his work has helped strengthen federal methane regulations and ensure electricity policies continue to drive down emissions. He has backed projects that have displaced more than 140 million litres of diesel in remote and Indigenous communities. And with several thousand Pembina media citations per year, Chris has proven that policy wonks can still make the front page.”
“It’s an honour to be recognized, and to lead such an incredible team,” Severson-Baker said. “After more than 40 years, the Pembina Institute continues to play a unique and critical role in Canada’s energy and climate landscape. I’m more driven than ever to deepen our influence and accelerate Canada’s adoption of clean energy and electrification, so we can meet this challenging moment and build a stronger, more resilient country.”
Canada’s annual Clean50 awards honour 50 individual sustainability leaders across the country. They are formally recognized at the annual Clean50 Summit in Toronto.
