Clean Development Mechanism Project Opportunities in BangladeshPre-Feasibility Report on A Brick Manufacturing Fuel Substitution CDM Project

Publication - Oct. 1, 2002 - By Bangladesh University of Engineering

This report outlines a project to introduce fuel substitution and the use of a cleaner technology to the brick-manufacturing sector, which would result in reductions in greenhouse gas emissions while meeting the continued demand for bricks from the construction industry. The project proposes the construction of 20 natural gas-fired Hoffman Kilns, which would displace unsustainable coal-fired Bull Trench and Fixed Chimney kilns. Each kiln is estimated to provide nearly six times the capacity of the traditional kilns. The report includes detailed calculations of baseline and estimated emissions based on mitigation technology, presentation of an appropriate monitoring and verification approach, and estimated project costs. An investment plan and analysis of financial issues is complemented by a risk assessment and sensitivity analysis.
