In response to an era of “polycrisis” — affordability, climate change and volatile trade dynamics — governments across Canada are identifying and accelerating nation-building projects to set up the economy for long-term resilience. Here in B.C., we are embarking on fast-paced, once-in-a-generation economic investments.
Building the clean energy economy supports economic prosperity, jobs, affordable energy, emissions reductions, and improved public health outcomes. It also makes Canadians become more resilient to the economic impacts of trade disputes and climate change. There is tremendous opportunity for these investments to directly improve the lives of every Canadian and help solve numerous crises at once.
This will require alignment across a range of actions: building retrofits, electrified transportation, a clean and modernized electricity grid, small-scale energy generation, carbon capture and storage — and of course, the investments needed to make it all work together.
This invitation-only event will bring together leaders in industry, government, labour, Indigenous communities and civil society to explore the balance of investments in new energy uses and supply needed to drive the transition, with a focus on the role of governments and related policy. We will tap the diverse expertise of thought leaders to identify opportunities and challenges and to explore solutions for a B.C. context. A report summarizing learnings and recommendations will follow.
