Under new energy procurement rules in Ontario, municipalities have the power to shape the province’s future electricity system, but with this power comes responsibility. Municipal councils across the province must choose which project proposals get the green light to move forward in the Independent Electricity System Operator’s procurement, and municipal staff have to make sure information flows between the public, council, and the developer so everyone can make an informed decision.
With no province-wide standardized procedure in place, each municipality is designing their own approval process. This roundtable is an opportunity for municipal staff to share their approach to granting Municipal Support Confirmations (MSCs), learn about other municipalities’ processes, and workshop any challenges they are facing as they navigate the Long Term 2 energy procurement.
This roundtable is centered around peer-to-peer conversations.
