Manager, Communications (Communities & Decarbonization)

Rachel Chen

Rachel Chen is the Pembina Institute's communications manager, Communities and Decarbonization. She is based in Toronto, although she still calls Texas home.

Rachel holds a Master of Information in critical information policy studies and a Bachelor of Arts in international relations and English from the University of Toronto. She spent most of her career in the journalism industry, working on making local news financially sustainable, before switching into climate communications. As a freelancer, she dabbles in creative writing but primarily writes on topics like climate change and urban planning for publications including Chatelaine, The Globe and Mail, and Vice. She also serves on the board of The Local magazine and recently, she co-founded the Willowdale Wire to build up hyperlocal news in her neighbourhood.

Outside of work, Rachel lives for good food, live music, and the sun. You’ll probably find her at a concert — or, more likely these days, reading in a park.
