Leonard Schein

Best known as the founder of the Vancouver International Film Festival and Festival Cinemas (a nationwide chain of independent theatres), Leonard Schein also served as the executive director of the Toronto International Film Festival and programmer of English-speaking films at the Montreal World Film Festival. He brings a wealth of business experience and cultural leadership to the Pembina Institute board of directors. Schein has served on the boards of many organizations, including the Canadian Cancer Society (Chair), Vancouver Economic Development Commission, Cambie Village Business Association, Vancouver Fringe Festival, Ecojustice (Chair),  the David Suzuki Foundation, BC Film, BC Child Foundation, Food Stash Foundation, Inspire Health Society, Point Grey Village Business Association (Chair), British Columbia Psychological Association, and Coast Mental Health Foundation (Chair).

The philanthropist and retired psychologist is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, B.C. Community Achievement Award, and Mayor’s Arts Award for Philanthropy, and was inducted into the B.C. Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2014
