Portrait of Jeremy Moorhouse

Jeremy was an eco-efficiency analyst with the Pembina Institute's Corporate Consulting group until 2011.

He provides technical analysis for life-cycle value assessments for decision-making. Jeremy's other projects include conducting research into practices and strategies for sustainability, evaluating the performance of current and proposed oilsands projects, and quantifying the relative benefits of different artificial lift technologies. Assessing and evaluating emerging technologies is also a key focus of Jeremy's work. His technical background includes experimental mining equipment design and production, as well as experimental data analysis. He has experience and knowledge in energy systems, water management and solid-waste management. Jeremy holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University.

Underground Coal Gasification Environmental Risks and Benefits

Pembina completed a preliminary review of the environmental risks and benefits of underground coal gasification, where the coal locked underground is converted into a gas, known as synthesis gas or syngas, that can be extracted at the site without mining. The report concludes that a pilot project in Alberta seems like a necessary next step to understand how mitigate the risks of the technology and determine if the considerable benefits can be realized.
