Meeting the PPA Moment in Alberta How your organization can get involved

Mar. 2, 2022  10:00am - 11:30am MST Alberta webinar - Public event

Join the Business Renewables Centre-Canada for a webinar focused on the power purchasing agreement (PPA) opportunity in the next 4-5 years and how to better position your organization to secure its electricity from renewable sources.

Following a backgrounder with Dr. Sara Hastings-Simon (University of Calgary) on why PPAs have so much momentum today, we will welcome Mark Porter from the Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), to discuss the logistics of forming PPA deals with multiple buyers (“aggregation”).

Why PPAs?

Renewable energy is on the rise in Alberta, with renewable energy power purchasing agreements (PPAs) made by private investments surging eightfold in 2021 compared to 2020. $3.7 billion will be invested into renewable infrastructure construction by 2023, creating 4,500 jobs as a result. We are living in the “PPA moment” in Alberta today.

What will this session be about?

Join us for a session focused on the PPA opportunity in the next 4-5 years and how to better position your organization to secure its electricity from renewable sources. Following a high-level backgrounder on why PPAs have so much momentum today with Dr. Sara Hastings-Simon (University of Calgary), we will welcome Mark Porter from BRC-Canada's sister organization in the U.S., the Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA), to discuss the logistics, advantages, and considerations of forming PPA deals with multiple buyers (“aggregation”). In tandem with this session, there will be a breakout room for networking among those interested in getting into more depth with PPAs.

Who is this for?

This event is designed for renewable energy buyers that have a basic knowledge of PPAs and who would like to understand the opportunities for their companies and institutions in the next 4-5 years.

With a specific focus on aggregation, the second half of the session will especially benefit buyers interested in going in on a PPA with multiple purchasing partners. The concurrent networking session in the second half is open to anyone interested in discussing PPAs and networking with BRC-Canada members.
