Pembina Endorses BC Government EE Targets as Important Steps Towards Achieving Social, Environmental and Economic Benefits

Aug. 28, 2006

The British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (MEMPR) has developed a set of energy efficiency targets to deliver social, environmental and economic benefits throughout BC. These targets, shown below, were developed with input from an Advisory Group consisting of representatives of industry, government and utilities. The targets and actions to achieve the targets are laid out in the Energy Efficient Buildings: A Plan for BC.

The Pembina Institute endorses MEMPR's energy efficiency targets as important steps towards achieving the province's social, environmental and economic benefits. We encourage BC MEMPR
- to monitor the progress being made to reach the targets,
- to support actions by industry, utilities, and other governments to meet the targets, and
- to evaluate whether the targets are motivating the BC building sector to make the changes needed to meet BC's environmental and social goals.
