Gatineau - The Kyoto Protocol Implementation Act (C-288), a private member's bill tabled by MP Pablo Rodriguez, will be debated in the House of Commons from 1.30 to 2.30pm on Friday, June 16.
If passed, the bill will compel the government to produce a credible plan to reach Canada's Kyoto target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and to implement that plan through regulations. The three opposition parties, who make up a majority of MPs, are expected to support the bill.
The Kyoto Protocol became international law in February 2005, but the Harper government has indicated that it does not intend to comply with the protocol.
