Industry's Kyoto Targets: Pembina Institute to Testify to House of Commons Committee

Feb. 14, 2005

Ottawa — This week, as the Kyoto Protocol becomes international law on February 16, Dr. Matthew Bramley, Director, Climate Change at the Pembina Institute, will testify to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development on the role that large industry should play in the federal government's forthcoming Kyoto plan.

Large industry accounts for close to 50% of Canada's greenhouse gas emissions, but the government is proposing that industry be required to make less than one-fifth of the emission reductions that Canada must achieve under Kyoto.
