Mark Winfield Addresses Standing Committee on The Strong Communities Act

Sept. 20, 2004

Mark Winfield, director of the Pembina Institute's Environmental Governance Program will be addressing the Ontario Legislature's Standing Committee on General Government regarding the Ontario Government's proposed land-use planning reform legislation Bill 26 — The Strong Communities Act.

Bill 26 is a key element of the province's land-use planning reform initiatives. The legislation would limit the ability of developers to initiate appeals to the Ontario Municipal Board before municipal councils have a chance to make decisions on applications for development. The legislation would also require that planning decisions by municipalities and the Ontario Municipal Board, "be consistent with" provincial policies issued under the Planning Act.
