Letter to Premier David Eby on maintaining strong zero-emission vehicle targets

Protecting policy that drives EV adoption and benefits British Columbians

Strong Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) targets help make electric vehicles (EVs) more available, more affordable and more practical for British Columbians. They encourage automakers to supply more vehicles to the province, support investment in charging infrastructure and jobs, reduce exposure to gasoline price volatility and improve air quality and public health. Maintaining ambitious targets ensures British Columbia continues to benefit from the global transition to EVs while protecting households and businesses from rising and unpredictable fuel costs.

In this letter, we recommend that the Government of British Columbia:

  • Set targets of no less than 55% ZEV sales by 2030 and 90% by 2035.
  • Exclude conventional hybrids from ZEV targets and treat plug-in hybrids as a transitional technology.
  • Maintain policies that support EV adoption and affordability, helping lower transportation costs and reduce exposure to fuel price volatility.
