This is one of a number of reports that provide the background for the Genuine Progress Indicator System of Sustainable Well-being Accounts. It explains how we derived the air quality index, energy use intensity index and greenhouse gas emissions index, all of which were published in "Sustainability Trends 2000: The Genuine Progress Statement for Alberta, 1961 to 1999." This background report describes key data sources, methodologies and presents the specific data for each of the indicators covered in this report.
