This report was written in 2000 to inform readers in Canada and Asia about the role Canada might play in the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The CDM provides a way in which Certified Emission Reduction credits can be created from greenhouse gas emission reduction projects in developing countries. Industrialized countries such as Canada can then use these credits to help them meet their binding emission reduction commitments under the Kyoto Protocol. The report was written during final negotiations on CDM rules and discusses Canadian policy on the CDM, identifies potential Canadian investors in the CDM, reviews the criteria that these companies might use to evaluate CDM projects, and catalogues Canadian technology that could be used in CDM projects.Download this 71-page publication in pdf format (1552 KB)
