Taking Stock 1998: North American Pollutant Releases and TransfersAnalysis and Highlights of the CEC Report Available from the Pembina Institute

OTTAWA and CALGARY — Today the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation released its fifth "Taking Stock" Report, analyzing and comparing the 1998 data from the Canadian National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) and the United States Toxic Release Inventory (TRI).

A Summary and Analysis of the CEC Report are available for download from website.

With expansion of the NPRI and TRI, the 1998 "Taking Stock" report provides the most comprehensive overview to date of pollutant releases and transfers in Canada and the United States. It now includes data from a number of additional sectors, such as electricity generating plants and hazardous waste treatment/disposal facilities, and also features an extensive analysis of trends in pollutant releases and transfers from 1995 to 1998.
