Alberta is phasing out all coal fired electricity generation in the province by 2030. The province has also set a target for 30% renewable energy generation by the same date. Key to this additional renewable energy capacity is that it is affordable for Albertans.

This technical document details how the province can achieve the lowest electricity prices possible in future rounds of renewable energy procurement by using a market-structured contract approach, a hybrid of the renewable energy certificate and contracts for difference approaches that delivers the benefits of each.
