VANCOUVER / COAST SALISH TERRITORY — As British Columbians await the final outcome of the 2017 provincial election, the three major parties have a critical opportunity to work together to secure B.C.’s economic future in the rapidly evolving global marketplace.

Today, the Pembina Institute released Vision for Clean Growth in B.C., a blueprint for the next provincial government to ensure tomorrow’s B.C. has a prosperous economy, thriving communities, and healthy families.

The clean energy think-tank is calling on Liberal Leader Christy Clark, NDP Leader John Horgan, and Green Leader Andrew Weaver to collaborate on building a clean growth economy in accordance with five key priorities:

1. Build a strong clean tech sector

2. Position B.C. to be competitive in the changing global economy

3. Make clean choices more affordable

4. Stand up for healthy and safe communities

5. Grow sustainable resource sector jobs

Vision for Clean Growth in B.C. provides 20 recommendations that build on B.C.’s core strengths and successes to date.

B.C. is at risk of being left behind as the global economy shifts and the costs of a changing climate begin to mount. The three major party leaders have an unprecedented opportunity to work together to position B.C.’s economy to be strong, future-proof, and inclusive.

Quick facts

  • B.C. is home to 14% of clean tech jobs in Canada, according to KPMG.
  • There are over 23,000 jobs in B.C.’s green building sector.
  • An energy-efficient home can lower energy bills by up to 50%.
  • Renewable energy projects employ more than 14,000 people in B.C.
