How Alberta’s new electricity sector will work

During “electricity week” in the Alberta legislature, the provincial government fully outlined its approach to reduce emissions from the electricity grid, as set out in the Climate Leadership Plan. The most recent announcements fill in the details on how pollution from coal will be phased out, and complement earlier renewable procurement details.

This is a solid plan that will enable Alberta to deliver on the promise of reliable, low cost, low carbon, low pollution energy. But electricity grids are never simple. This factsheet describes how the six most important components of the Province's plan are intended to work, and includes recommendations to make sure we all benefit.
