Clean Energy for Vehicles letter of support

With the quickly approaching expiry of the electric vehicle programs in British Columbia, we, representatives from business, industry, NGOs and municipalities, are requesting the extension of the consumer incentives under the Clean Energy for Vehicles (CEV) program – specifically, the vehicle purchase incentive and the residential charging rebate.

  • EVs can significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with transportation in British Columbia.

  • The time is right for EVs in British Columbia as major barriers are being overcome.

  • Despite growing momentum, an incentive is still needed in British Columbia.

The Pembina Institute supports the B.C. government’s intent to legislate requirements that will advance the electrification of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles. However, the key features of the proposed policy do not make sufficient allowance for the variability in market readiness to transition to zero-emission among trucks and buses, nor does it adequately address the need for more charging and refuelling infrastructure.
