The carbon neutral requirements have been, and continue to be, a source of benefits and concern in British Columbia. Addressing the concerns will produce better outcomes, increase public trust and provide a better knowledge base to inform future changes in the policy. Leaving them unaddressed will undermine support for climate action within the public sector and climate policy more braodly in the province.
We believe that setting these sectoral targets is a crucial step towards a transparent, effective, and timely plan for climate action.
Protecting the health of British Columbians, building a resilient economy, and taking strong action on climate change are different pieces of the same puzzle.
B.C. is being commended for its deft navigation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now B.C. has another opportunity to show leadership — by rebuilding the economy to ensure our province’s future resilience.
