Carbon Capture and Storage Thought Leader Forum

Ed Whittingham and Preston Manning

Pembina has significant experience bringing together industry, government, non-profits and other stakeholders for unique multi-stakholder events that get results.

On November 10, 2008, the Pembina Institute and the University of Calgary's Institute for Sustainable Energy, Environment, and Economy (ISEEE) hosted a national, collaborative Carbon Capture and Storage Thought Leader Forum in Calgary, Alberta. The forum brought together the public and private sectors, academics, and experts from environmental non-governmental organizations to discuss and debate critical CCS policy questions. As a consequence of our work on the CCS Forum we produced a series of interviews with industry and other experts and created an informative collection of information on CCS.

Greenhouse Gas Inventories

Finding Practical Answers to Climate Change

Pembina Corporate Consulting is experienced in establishing a company's greenhouse-gas (GHG) inventory, as well as in helping develop a customized GHG management strategy. Our experience focuses primarily on commercial and light-industrial activities and facilities, and includes such clients as Mountain Equipment Co-op, Waiward Steel Fabricators, and Lockerbie & Hole.

A GHG inventory can include both typical energy applications such as space heating and lighting, and process-specific operations such as drying, pumping, refrigeration, fleet operations or heavy equipment. We can also help you to determine what an appropriate baseline year might be to set future targets against.

Pembina's GHG management strategy development includes a strategy custom-made to fit your company's time and resources. The fundamental elements of a typical GHG strategy include the following seven steps:

GHG Management Strategy

We can help your company think through and identify areas of high priority for cost-effective GHG reductions. We can also help you understand emerging GHG policies and the risks and opportunities that they may present to your company.

GHG Offsets Project Development & Evaluation

More Practical Solutions to Climate Change

The Pembina Institute has been involved in the development of greenhouse-gas (GHG) offset projects over the past 15 years, and was instrumental in ensuring that future domestic trading rules maintain environmental integrity. Combining our technical skills with our experience in policy development, we have enjoyed a long history of helping clients understand project opportunities, by identifying and quantifying their life-cycle greenhouse gas offsets, and providing advice about market opportunities.

Based on our mandate to help achieve deep reductions of greenhouse gases, we carry a strong interest in ensuring all fungible offsets are genuine. As such, Pembina Corporate Consulting plays a unique role in Canada by determining whether a GHG offset can be considered of "premium" quality based on our own internal criteria. This is one way that we can provide added business value to the branding of your offset, if you feel it meets our high-integrity standards.
